Upper Hunter Community Services Inc. (UHCS) is a community based incorporated organisation which commenced on 1 July 2001. The organisation was formed by the amalgamation of Upper Hunter Community Management Inc., Upper Hunter Community Training Inc. and Upper Hunter Family Support Service.
UHCS Inc. provides a range of state and federally funded welfare and community services delivered from several locations in Muswellbrook. These services range from emergency relief and crisis accommodation to information, advocacy and support, and children’s services such as out of school hours care and mobile outreach service.
Although UHCS Inc. receives funding from Government sources, we are not a government department. UHCS Inc is an incorporated association and has a board of volunteer committee members from the community.
UHCS regularly run parenting groups in Muswellbrook and surrounding areas depending on funding and demand. We have staff accredited to deliver 123 Magic, Triple P and the Behavioural Management Parenting Program. Please check our upcoming events, or contact us on 0265423555 to register your interest. Everyone is welcome to attend. UHCS is also able to provide individual assistance through our family support service, contact our office for more information.
No, UHCS does not hold cash at any of it’s premises and does not distribute emergency relief in cash payments in any instance.
Emergency relief is provided to eligible clients by appointment. There is an assessment process, and assistance is limited. In some cases, small staple food parcels may be provided to assist clients to deal with their immediate needs. Appointments can be made in person or over the phone.
UHCS does not have the facilities to provide transport to the general public. We are unable to provide cash to pay for fuel or transport tickets.
UHCS has a crisis accommodation service to assist those at risk of being homeless. We do not manage or let out community housing. We will always try to assist those in genuine need, however our ability to assist is limited to the availability of accommodation in the area and budget constraints. Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to find you a bed for one or two nights, and refer you appropriately to address your long term accommodation needs. UHCS staff aim to assist clients into affordable, long term accommodation solutions.
UHCS maintains a small number of PCs on site at the QEII building, and at Hunter Park Family Centre for public access at no charge. The computers are provided to allow people over the age of 16 to access the internet for needs such as job research, online job applications, typing resumes and letters, researching course and school assignments or accessing government websites for information. The computers are not provided to use for social networking, instant messaging or gaming for extended periods, nor to access inappropriate websites.
